Reunion Camp

This years Scout Reunion Camp was fantastic with 32 Scouts attending, this included 6 Air Scouts from the 1st Carlton Colville who were camping with us. Scouts were on good behaviour (for Scouts at camp) with many activities during Saturday morning including Shooting, Rope Bridge, Archery, Back Woods Cooking and Raft building. Also Scouts took part in Shooting and Log Sawing competitions, unfortunately the Go-Karting competition was postponed due to a very muddy track, this will be re-arranged for later in the year. Everyone had fun at the camp fire in the evening with 4th leading the singing with “Worm Song (Nobody likes me)”.

Packing up is now progressing nicely this morning, with the weather helping for once.

Winter Camp

What a fantastically cold camp, both nights below freezing and not much better during the day, but this did not dampen the spirits of the 4th Lowestoft Scouts, Leaders and Helpers. The tents were setup ready during Friday and when the Scouts arrived at 1830 all they had to do was attach the inners and setup their sleeping kit, then a run through the rules and safety, some games, supper and bed at 2300.
The Scouts were woken at 0700 for a wash! And breakfast then the days activities began with the Scouts being split into two groups of nine, for a hike to Sizewell along the cliff top and then back along the beach and a pioneering project (see the photos), following this was a short break and then the two groups swapped over. Lunch was served at 1500, a fantastic roast cooked by Keeo, Cookie and Sarah.
The afternoon/evening activities started off with a lesson in how to skin and cook a rabbit as well as a tasting followed by making and cooking a fruit loaf and later in the evening carving wooden tent pegs. The Scouts then had an hour before supper to have some fun and games, before turning into bed at 1030.
The morning broke with fresh snow! (Perfect for breaking camp). While the Scouts had breakfast and tidied up their kit, the leaders quickly dropped the tents before the snow turned to rain, the rest of the morning was taken up by packing the kit away and loading into the van and leaders cars. The Scouts were then able to play while waiting to be collect by their parents and carer’s.
The aftermath is that the Scout hut is full of drying tents (yes snow turns to water when it melts, who knew?) and a bunch of tired Scouts and exhausted Leaders.
From the feedback we have already received everyone enjoyed the camp and we would like to thank the Scouts for their fantastic behavior and the Leaders and Helpers for all their hard work in planning and running the camp and activities, these are Skip, Techy, Chippy, Tabi, Plank, Sparky, Keeo, Cookie, John, Mark, Sarah and Harry. Next year’s winter camp is already in the planning stage, the Bahamas will be expensive but much warmer!

A donation of £350 was spent on play equipment for the childrens ward at the James Paget Hospital, this included DVD players, DVDs, computer games, baby cot toys and boxed games.

Rememberance Day Parade

On the 13th November the scouts took part in the Remembrance Day parade, the scouts joined the parade at the post office down town. We paraded from the post office to the war memorial on the south pier where the Armistice Day service took place. This year must have been one of the warmest and sunniest we had been too in a long while. We led the parade for the first time and William was chosen to lay the wreath with the DC. The turnout by the Scouts was terrific and all looked exceptionally smart. We received a lot of positive feedback from the public which is great as this is rare these days. It’s not very often we parade and it is an important part of scouting so thanks to Scouts, Parents and Guardians for supporting these events. Fireworks Evening

On Friday 4th November the Scouts were joined by the Beavers and Cubs. There were around 70 that attended the night from 6.30pm – 9.00pm. They all made Camp Donuts (A must if you have not tried before!!) followed by hotdogs and fireworks.   All seemed to enjoy the evening. A special thanks to TABI for arranging the fireworks for the evening. (Photos on the left are fireworks from the evening).

Scout District Archery Competition 2011

This was the first competition of the scouting calendar. This year we entered two teams into the competition which was held at the 4th Lowestoft Headquarters. There was a big turn out with 13 teams entering the competition. The weather was perfect for the competition that saw our A Team come 2nd and our B Team come 3rd. It was a solid performance by both teams. Well done to both teams!
